Why is natural gas storage important?

Natural gas storage has an important role in maintaining the reliability of supply needed to meet the demands of consumers. Storage services serve as a buffer between production, transportation and distribution to consumers to ensure that adequate supplies of natural gas are available during seasonal demand shifts, unexpected demand surges or unexpected weather outages.

What is the Bobcat Gas Storage project?
Bobcat Gas Storage is operating a two cavern underground natural gas storage facility in Port Barre, Louisiana in St. Landry Parish.

What is the location of the Bobcat Gas Storage project?
The Bobcat facility is located in Port Barre, Louisiana in St. Landry Parish. This location is in close proximity to the Gillis and Eunice aggregation points and 45 miles north of the Henry Hub.

How does natural gas get injected and withdrawn of the domes?
During the storage cycle, natural gas is taken in from the pipelines, compressed, and injected into the salt cavern. For withdrawal, gas free-flows from the cavern back into the pipeline without compression.

How safe are natural gas storage facilities?
Natural gas has been stored in salt cavern for 40 years. There are approximately 20 natural gas storage salt cavern facilities currently operating in the United States. The Bobcat Gas Storage facility will be designed and constructed according to regulatory and modern industry standards. All equipment used for the project will comply with state and federal regulations.

Project Information

The first phase (Cavern 1) of the Bobcat Gas Storage Project placed into service on November 1, 2008. Cavern 2 was placed in service on October 31, 2009. At full buildout which is currently scheduled for the summer of 2010 Bobcat will have approximately 19 Bcf of working gas capacity.

Bobcat is connected to the pipeline systems of Texas Eastern Transmission L.P (TETCO), Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company (TGPL), Florida Gas Transmission (FGT) ANR Pipeline (ANR) and Gulf South Pipeline (GSPL).

Protection of the Environment

Construction and operation of the Bobcat Gas Storage Project has and will continue to have minimal impacts on the environment and on nearby landowners. The storage facility itself is located in a previously farmed land away from residential developments. The pipeline routes were designed to utilize existing pipelines corridors and existing rights-of-way.

The compressors and other equipment were designed and constructed to limit sound and air emissions and comply with all applicable state and federal guidelines. The Bobcat Gas Storage facility is surrounded by a buffer of trees, which help to minimize both visual and noise impacts on the surrounding area. Now operational, the project cannot be heard or seen from Highway 190 (the nearest major road to the Project).

Bobcat's underground caverns are being solution mined using water withdrawn from two raw water supply wells that Bobcat will drill. These wells were constructed and are operating in compliance with regulations of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, Office of Public Works. Brine created in the solution mining process has and will continue to be disposed of through brine disposal wells that were drilled, completed and are operating in compliance with requirements of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, Office of Conservation.

Throughout cavern development and at cavern completion, Bobcat will confirm each cavern’s shape by sonar imaging, and Bobcat will test each cavern for mechanical integrity before gas is injected.

Cavern 1 has passed its mechanical integrity test.

Cavern 2 is in service.

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Approvals On July 20, 2006, Bobcat received authorizations from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to construct and operate its gas storage facility in St. Landry Parish, LA. The FERC certificate gave Bobcat the necessary federal approvals necessary to construct and operate its facility. With the success of Cavern Wells #1 and #2, Bobcat has planned an expansion to add more capacity to our storage project. The additional expansion will use the land currently in our possession and will not create any new undisturbed areas. Bobcat received approval for this expansion from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in April of 2009.

Community Investment Fund

Bobcat has established a Community Investment Fund to provide financial support to worthwhile projects that will benefit the communities of St. Landry Parish. Bobcat has committed $10,000 for 2008, with $5,000 dedicated to the town of Port Barre, where our project is located.

Bobcat will select projects and provide funding quarterly - our first projects will be awarded funding in January 2008.
